Events: Date Night 003 — an evening with Lily Mora of Sunday Salon and artist Julian Hocking.

For our third and final Date Night (for now), we welcomed new faces and familiar faces to our showroom for another evening of conversation, creative practice and community. Joining us this time were Lily Mora of Sunday Salon and Melbourne artist and designer Julian Hocking.

Date Night is a series of intimate evenings at our Northcote showroom, bringing together people working across design, art and the creative industries. Each edition offers an opportunity to step away from the everyday and gather around a shared table, exchanging ideas and perspectives on creative practice.

For our third and final edition of the year, we welcomed Lily Mora, founder and director of Sunday Salon, and Melbourne artist and designer Julian Hocking. Working across contemporary art, print, drawing and graphic design, both bring distinct perspectives to the creative landscape, with practices shaped by curiosity, collaboration and an ongoing exchange of ideas.

Hosted by Kate, the evening explored the relationship between art and design, and the different ways creative practices develop over time.

From building a practice and finding an audience to the role of community in supporting creative work, the conversation considered the ideas, processes and connections that sit behind what we make.

The conversation touched on the relationships that shape creative practice — between artists and galleries, designers and collaborators, and the people who support and engage with their work. Lily and Julian shared perspectives on building these connections over time, and the role they play in sustaining a creative community.

Date Night 003

Date Night would not have been possible without the generosity of our guests, sponsors and event partners. A sincere thank you to everyone who helped bring the series to life, including Decent Wines, Matteo, NON, Trutta Wines, Union Magazine, Long Prawn, MPavilion and Georgia Smedley of Object Matters, for their support in bringing our creative community together. Until next time.
